Who runs attendance in Coimbatore
A cotton spinning mill carries eighty to three hundred hands on a monthly wage with a night-shift allowance. A pump or electric-motor unit doing machining, winding, assembly and testing keeps ten to forty people on a monthly salary with hourly overtime. A small ferrous foundry running moulding, melting and fettling pays moulders and fettlers a daily wage, supervisors monthly.
Smaller is the wet-grinder and job-work workshop at Kurichi SIDCO, five to twenty-five hands, daily wage with assembly and stone dressing often settled per piece. Manufacturing units dominate, and transport fleets, contractors and the retail shops around Oppanakara Street and Town Hall reach month end with one question: who was present, at which site, on which shift.

Four notified Pongal days come back as a week short-handed
Bhogi, Thai Pongal, Thiruvalluvar Day and Uzhavar Thirunal sit together in mid-January, and rural hands add travel to both ends. Migrant workers from Jharkhand and West Bengal return later still. The holiday list pays the notified days, and the leave module settles everything either side of them.
Ayudha Puja takes a working day off the roster
Machinery across foundries and workshops is washed and switched off for the puja, so a day that reads as a full floor of absentees is really a shutdown. Configure it as a holiday and it is paid as one, and October payroll carries the exception without anyone reopening it.

A worked example
Say a spinning mill operative is on INR 16,400 a month against 26 payable days. That is INR 16,400 / 26 = INR 630.77 a day, rounded to two decimals. Two Pongal days sit in the holiday list you configured and are paid without a punch. He works 9 night shifts, and the mill's own rule pays INR 60 for each, so INR 60 x 9 = INR 540 which the admin applies on top: INR 16,400 + INR 540 = INR 16,940. Figures are illustrative.

Mid-January is the year's longest stop. Bhogi, Thai Pongal, Thiruvalluvar Day and Uzhavar Thirunal fall as four notified days and rural hands stretch the trip. Ayudha Puja and Vijaya Dasami in October shut the machines down. Deepavali pulls eastern-state workers home for longer than the holiday list allows.
Frequently asked questions
Our mill changes over at 11pm with nobody senior at the gate. How is that captured?
Each operative checks in from their own phone on a login code, inside the geofence drawn around the mill, so the handover no longer depends on a register at the gate. Set the 11pm roster as an overnight shift and that check-in pairs with the 7am check-out as one shift. Punches reach the admin desk with a location pin.
We pay a night-shift allowance per night. Will VTClock work it out?
No. VTClock does not calculate allowances or overtime pay and it does not hold your per-night rate. It records which shift each person worked and on which date, so the count of night shifts sits in the attendance record. You apply the mill's own rule to that count, and monthly salary still builds from days worked.
Start times at our Arasur foundry move with the melt. Can shifts follow that?
Assign the shift the crew is rostered on and let the grace window take the drift. Where a pour pushes the start well past the set time, an admin corrects that day from the attendance list and the late mark goes away before payday. VTClock does not build a roster; it records against the shift you assign.
How do the four Pongal days and Ayudha Puja get handled at payday?
Put them in the holiday list you configure at setup and they are paid as holidays without a check-in. Days workers take on either side of the cluster go through the leave module, where an admin approves them or marks loss of pay. Salary builds from the same record, so January and October get settled once.
Our machine shops stretch the general shift when the order book fills. What gets recorded?
The check-out time, and nothing beyond it. VTClock does not compute overtime pay or hold an overtime rate. What you get is a check-in and a check-out against the shift you assigned, with late marks, waived marks and admin corrections visible on the same list. Your own overtime rule applies to those hours at month end.
