Who runs attendance in Surat
Pay basis changes from one estate to the next. A dyeing and processing mill in Pandesara GIDC carries sixty to three hundred hands on a daily wage with overtime and a night allowance. A powerloom weaving shed of ten to sixty workers is paid by the metre. A diamond cutting and polishing unit runs twenty-five to a hundred and fifty people on piece rate per stone, settled monthly.

Uttarayan on 14 and 15 January stops work across Gujarat for two days. Navratri runs garba past midnight, so morning rosters thin and late marks spike. Nobody checks in, so the day starts as absent. An admin corrects it from the attendance list, or the worker applies through the leave module and the admin approves it or marks it loss of pay. Whatever is settled there feeds the salary for that month, so the argument happens once instead of again at payday.
